Dollar Tree Nautical Rope Wreath
Here at Ruffles and Rain Boots, I love making my own wreaths. It’s fun sprucing things up and changing out the wreaths on the doors, the ones tucked into bookcases, on the mantle, or hanging on that really high kitchen cabinet over the refrigerator I can never reach by myself.
If you’ve been around here a little while, you know I’m adding a few coastal farmhouse decor accents to my home this year. Even in the bright sun of summer, I didn’t think I could stomach the neon colors of a life preserver, so I decided to tone it down a bit with rope.
This quick and fun rope wreath looks great, is simple to make, and works great in small spaces. You can make it larger using a bigger foam form to hang it on a front door, however, I needed it small, so the Dollar Tree was my first stop.

Tips For Making This Nautical Buoy Wreath
- If you want to use a larger wreath form, grab a couple more packs of Dollar Tree rope. That said, you can go to Joann’s or even a hardware store to buy rope by the yard or foot.
- The rope will need a good amount of hot glue to hold it in place. It’s better to lay the wreath down flat to apply the glue.
- The Shore Living collection at the Dollar Tree has bright white sand dollars, star fish, and shells if you want to decorate it with a neutral vibe for a beachy but neutral style.
- You can style this so many ways:
- tucked into a book case with an accent piece in front,
- used as a candle holder ring – it would look great with simple eucalyptus or lamb’s ear,
- leaning on the living room mantle with a few vases full of driftwood or sea glass nearby,
- or hung in a small powder room – the size is perfect for a half-bath accent!

Materials
- green foam wreath form (Dollar Tree)
- 4 packs of rope (Dollar Tree)
Tools
- hot glue gun and glue sticks
- scissors
Instructions
- Add hot glue to the inside part of the green foam wreath and then press the rope on top firmly.
- Repeat this process until you've covered the top and outer edge of the wreath. (You can stop once you complete the sides as no one will see the wreath if you're hanging it up) or you can keep going.
- Make sure none of the wreath form can be seen. If it can be, color it with a black sharpie to diminish its appearance.
- To make the Once you've wrapped the wreath how you want it, add a little bit of hot glue to the back and then take the rope and wrap it around three times. Trim off any excess and glue down the ends.
- Repeat this process three other times equidistance apart. If hanging, cut a small part of the rope to use as a hanger and add it to the top of the wreath with hot glue or super glue.
Notes
If you run out of rope length in the middle of a row, glue the end pointing down into the form. Start a new rope right on top of that one - blend it in.
This would also look great with the light-colored rope (by the yard at Joann's) with the Dollar Tree rope used for accenting the raised portions.
