How To Make Our Oven-Fried Parmesan Chicken Drumsticks Recipe:

Oven-Fried Parmesan Chicken Drumsticks Recipe (3)

When you are ready to make dinner preheat the oven to 375 degrees and then start by combining the beaten egg and milk in a small mixing bowl.

Then, in another small shallow bowl, combine the parmesan cheese, bread crumbs, dried oregano, dried paprika, and ground black pepper until everything is evenly distributed and you don’t have all the spices in one area.

Once those bowls are set, prepare your chicken the way you desire. You can choose to remove the skin or take it off.

Now, dip the chicken into the egg mixture, making sure all of the chicken gets covered and then dredge the chicken into the spiced bread crumb mixture.

After the chicken has been dipped and seasoned, place the chicken on a greased 15x10x2 inch baking pan, making sure to leave room between each piece of chicken so that they do not touch.

Next you will need to carefully drizzle the prepared chicken with either the melted butter or margarine.

When all of the chicken pieces have received butter, place the pan in the oven that has been preheated to 375 and let the chicken cook for 45-55 minutes or until the chicken is tender, no longer pink and cooked all the way through.

It is not necessary to turn the chicken while it is baking. Leaving space between the chicken allows it to get cooked on all sides.

Once the chicken is done cooking, remove the pan from the oven and immediately place it into a covered container and serve it within 1 hour.

You can also cover the chicken and let it cool down and transport it to where it needs to go while being surrounded by icepacks.

  2. Shallow dish
  3. 15x10x2 inch baking pan (one like THIS will work great!)

How Long Does it Take for Drumsticks to Cook in the Oven?

Since the chicken is being cooked at a lower temperature than the traditional frying, they will take a bit longer, but I promise it is worth it. When we use drumsticks, they then to take anywhere from 45 to 55 minutes to cook all the way through.

To be sure they are done, make sure they are cooked all the way through. If you don’t happen to have a meat thermometer, the Recipe Fairy has some great instruction on how to tell if your chicken is done cooking.

If you do have a meat thermemetere, make sure that at the thickest part of the chicken, the temperature reads 165 degrees.

How Do You Keep Breading on Parmesan Chicken?

One of the best ways to keep the breading on this parmesan chicken recipe is by getting it moist! It might sound crazy, but it works!

We drizzle ours with melted butter and it works perfectly. Not only does it help the dry crumbs stick to the chicken, it also adds even more flavor.

Do You Need to Flip Drumsticks in the Oven?

As long as you prepare the pan properly you do not need to flip the drumsticks while they are cooking in the oven.

When you spray the bottom of the pan to grease it, it also helps cook the lower half of the chicken. Also by allowing adequate space between the chicken, the chicken will be able to have heat on all sides of the chicken letting the drumsticks to cook evenly without having to be rotated.

With simple pantry ingredients like panko breadcrumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, and Parmesan cheese, this recipe offers a delicious and satisfying main course that the whole family will love.

The beauty of this recipe lies in its ease and versatility. Whether you’re using chicken legs, chicken thighs, or boneless skinless chicken breasts, you’ll achieve the same great results. The chicken drumstick recipes are perfect for those who prefer dark meat chicken, while the option of boneless, skinless breasts caters to those who prefer a leaner cut of chicken.

FAQs

Is it better to bake chicken legs at 350 or 400? ›

Option #1: Bake chicken legs at a higher temperature, around 400 to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. A lower temp like 350 degrees Fahrenheit won't result in crispy skin, but it will still be juicy and delicious.

Do you have to flip chicken drumsticks in the oven? ›

Best oven temperature to bake chicken legs

At 400 degrees, the inside of the chicken will still be juicy. Just be sure to flip the chicken over halfway through the baking time.

Why are my drumsticks not crispy? ›

One reason your chicken drumsticks may not be crispy after baking in the oven is the temperature was too low. To achieve crispy chicken skin, it's best to bake the chicken at a higher temperature, as I do here for these Seasoned Crispy Chicken Drumsticks – baking at 420.

Why does my breading fall off chicken parm? ›

Place the breaded chicken on a cooling rack (or a platter) and chill in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes. This cooling time will help the layers of breading ingredients solidify and adhere better after the chicken cooks. Once you start cooking the chicken, be patient and don't flip it over too early.

Do you put egg or flour first for breaded chicken? ›

The trick to getting the batter to stick to the chicken pieces properly is to dip the chicken into the seasoned flour, before dipping into the egg mixture. The flour helps the egg mixture adhere to the chicken. Then dip the chicken back into the flour mixture.

Is it better to cover drumsticks in the oven? ›

Cooking them covered helps them to remain moist and the internal heat helps to cook them thoroughly. After approximately 25 minutes, remove the cover and continue cooking for an additional 20 to 25 minutes. This will allow the skin on the drumsticks to brown and crisp slightly.

What is the best temperature to cook drumsticks in the oven? ›

What Is the Best Temperature to Bake Chicken Drumsticks? For juicy, flavorful chicken with golden skin, it is best to bake chicken drumsticks at 400°F. At this high temperature, the chicken will be done in about 30 minutes.

How do you know when chicken drumsticks are done in the oven? ›

If you can't get an accurate reading, you can tell if chicken drumsticks and drumettes are finished cooking by looking at the meat on the skinny side of the leg. The meat should shrink up, and you should be able to see a lot more bone than you could when you started cooking.

Should I use cornstarch or flour for crispy chicken? ›

Cornstarch Is the Secret to the Crispiest Fried Chicken. You might keep cornstarch on hand for thickening gravy and making near-instant pudding at home.

What is the trick to getting crispy chicken? ›

Mix things up a little. It makes sense to keep a “wet hand” and a “dry hand” when breading chicken for frying. However, a little mixing of the two actually makes your fried chicken crispier, says Fontana. Take your wet hand, dip it into your buttermilk and hold it over your flour to let it drip into the mixture.

How do restaurants get their chicken so crispy? ›

Restaurants often achieve juicy and tender fried chicken with a crispy exterior through a combination of techniques such as marinating the chicken in buttermilk or brine, using a seasoned flour or breading mixture, and deep-frying at the right temperature.

Why won't my breading stick to my chicken? ›

Meat is not properly dry

If the meat is wet, it will make the flour soggy. In that case, breading will not stick properly and may fall off when deep frying. Therefore, you must take some paper towels and pat dry the meat on all sides.

How do you keep breading from falling off chicken breast? ›

Always dip your chicken in beaten egg before coating

Dipping your chicken in egg helps the breadcrumbs, or whatever coating you use, adhere evenly to the outside of the cutlet. You should start with a thin layer of flour, which gives the egg a better surface to cling to, then the egg, then the coating.

What is the cause of loose breading or breading not sticking to the chicken? ›

Moisture is not your friend when frying. Dust the chicken in the flour and shake off any excess. The flour should be enough to create a moisture barrier around the cutlet; otherwise, the moisture created during frying is going to create steam that will cause your breading to flake off.
